Picture a six-year-old girl leaving home before the sun is up, walking more than three miles on an unpaved road - alone, or maybe with an older sibling - just to get to school on time. For many of our students at Petals of Hope Girls Academy, that was simply the reality of showing up every day.
The walk itself wasn't the only problem. In Liberia, road safety is a genuine concern. Parents worried every morning. Some families decided it wasn't worth the risk and quietly stopped sending their daughters to school.
We heard this over and over from families in our communities. A school bus wasn't a luxury - it was the thing standing between some of our students and dropping out.
After months of planning, fundraising, and more than a few answered prayers, a school bus began making daily routes to our campus. The difference was immediate.
Enrollment stabilized. Students arrived on time, and they arrived safe. Parents who had been on the fence about keeping their daughters in school saw that someone had taken their concerns seriously.
For the drivers and staff who manage the routes, it's become one of the most visible parts of what we do. Every morning when the bus pulls up to campus and the girls file out, there's something in the air that's hard to put into words. Relief, maybe. Or just the quiet sense that this is what it looks like when a community decides that getting a child to school is worth the effort.
If your gift helped make that bus possible - thank you. You're on the bus too, in a way.
