Out of the Ashes: Beth's Story of Redemption

How God turned suffering into purpose - and why Petals of Hope International is so personal to Elizabeth Weedor.

Elizabeth Beth Weedor with students at Petals of Hope Girls Academy

Long before Petals of Hope International became a school ministry in Liberia, God was writing a story in Elizabeth "Beth" Weedor's life - a story marked by suffering, survival, faith, and redemption.

Beth's testimony, shared more fully in her book Out of the Ashes: My Journey from Tragedy to Redemption, tells the story of a life shaped by hardship, faith, displacement, and the redeeming grace of God. Her story is not simply about what she endured. It is about what God brought forth from it.

That is part of what makes Petals of Hope so personal.

Beth does not serve girls in Liberia from a distance. She knows what it means for a child to need safety, stability, opportunity, and hope. She understands what it means for a future to feel fragile. And she knows the difference Christ-centered love and care can make when life has been marked by uncertainty.

Petals of Hope International was born from that kind of burden - the kind that comes not only from seeing a need, but from knowing, personally, what it means for God to meet someone in the middle of pain and begin writing a new story.

Together, Beth and Tony Weedor carried a vision to serve children in Liberia through education, discipleship, and practical care. Their dream was never simply to build a school. It was to create a place where students could be seen, protected, taught, encouraged, and pointed toward the hope of Christ.

Tony's passing did not end that vision. In many ways, it deepened the call to continue.

Today, every classroom opened, every student welcomed, every uniform provided, and every young girl given a safer path forward is part of that ongoing story of redemption. Petals of Hope continues because the need is still real, the calling is still clear, and the God who brought beauty from ashes is still at work.
